Tooro Kingdom succession split over secret son versus TV presenter heir
Royal clan named TV presenter as heir, but family claims late king willed throne to secret son.
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV died last month aged 34 while getting cancer treatment. Oyo had ruled Tooro Kingdom for more than three decades and was the world's youngest reigning monarch.
Tooro's royal clan elders said Kijanangoma should become the new king. Kijanangoma is 56 years old.
He is a TV news presenter at state broadcaster UBC and Oyo's cousin. Princess Ruth Komuntale, the late king's sister, rejected this choice.
Princess Ruth Komuntale said the late king left a will written in 2022. The will names his young son as heir.
The son's identity remains secret. The queen mother said royal guards were withdrawn from the palace.
Soldiers were sent there instead. She called it "house arrest."
King Oyo's burial is planned for Saturday.
