Three charged after stolen car crashes into vehicles at Canberra intersection
Three men face court after a stolen Volkswagen SUV crashed into two other cars at a busy Canberra intersection.
A stolen dark blue-green Volkswagen SUV crashed into a Toyota Camry and a Lexus SUV at the intersection of Barton Highway and Gundaroo Drive in north Canberra on Tuesday afternoon. Lachlan Alan Smith, 22, Brandon D'Alessandro, 22, and Mathew James Comi, 38, all sustained non-critical injuries and were taken to hospital.
Two people in the Lexus were treated at the scene. All three men were charged with dishonestly driving a motor vehicle without consent.
In court on Wednesday, Smith did not apply for bail. The magistrate refused bail for both D'Alessandro and Comi.
D'Alessandro has a criminal history with 166 entries, including 15 bail breaches. Comi also faces existing bail conditions for other alleged offences.
Police said the Volkswagen was not being pursued but referred the crash to the Australian Federal Police for oversight review.
