Man arrested after sword-carrying car chase across Canberra and Queanbeyan
Police arrested a 22-year-old man after a high-speed chase through Canberra and Queanbeyan.
NSW Monaro Police District officers tried to stop a Kia hatchback at 2am on Kendall Avenue North in Queanbeyan. The driver refused to stop.
The chase went across the border into the ACT through Hume, Tuggeranong and Tralee, then back into NSW through Jerrabomberra and Karabar before returning to the ACT. On Yass Road, police used road spikes that punctured the tyres.
The hatchback stopped on Crawford Street, Queanbeyan. The driver ran from the vehicle.
Police chased him on foot and arrested him. A search found a flick knife on him.
Police also found a large sword, gloves and balaclavas in the vehicle. He was charged with dangerous driving, possessing a knife in public and driving while disqualified.
He was refused bail.
