Tattoo removal booming as industry records rapid expansion over a decade
The global tattoo removal market was worth $1.79 billion in 2025 and is forecast to reach $6.75 billion by 2034.
When Mike Anderson couldn't find a laser tattoo removal clinic near Sydney's inner-west twelve years ago, he decided to open one with his wife. What began as a personal solution has grown into 12 locations across NSW, Queensland and the United States.
Today, the global tattoo removal industry is worth US$1.29 billion ($1.79 billion) annually and is forecast to reach US$4.87 billion ($6.75 billion) by 2034. Anderson attributes the rise partly to more people getting detailed, fine-line tattoos with higher error rates.
"With more detail comes more opportunity for mistakes and bad work," Anderson says. "When they go wrong, they usually go noticeably wrong."
For five years, Anderson's clinic has also run a charity program removing hate tattoos including swastikas and white power symbols, helping people distance themselves from extremist beliefs.
