Warrnambool College pool closes in December, community rallies to delay it
Victoria's Department of Education is closing Warrnambool College's swimming pool in December 2026, displacing about 40 children who train there daily.
The Warrnambool College swimming pool will close in December 2026 and be demolished from early 2027. The Victorian Department of Education says the pool has reached the end of its practical life and costs too much to repair.
About 40 children train at the college pool every morning through the local swimming club. The closure leaves the region with limited options.
The council-run outdoor pool at AquaZone closes at the end of the season in April 2027. This will leave the region of about 68,000 people with very few swimming facilities.
A community rally is planned for Sunday, 20 September at 10am to push back against the decision. Swimming club president Katie Gleeson said the closure threatens the club's future.
This is the third pool closure in the district since the end of 2025.
