BYD cuts Atto prices to $19,990, becoming Australia's cheapest car
BYD cut the Atto 1 to $19,990, Australia's cheapest vehicle, and launched the Atto 2 plug-in hybrid from $24,990.
Chinese carmaker BYD cut the price of its Atto 1 electric car to $19,990 drive-away, making it Australia's cheapest EV and tying with the MG 3 as the cheapest vehicle on sale. The company revealed the Atto 2 plug-in hybrid from $24,990 before on-road costs, undercutting BYD's own Sealion 5 model.
These moves come after new Chinese government guidelines in September calling for overseas automakers to stop aggressive pricing and avoid disrupting overseas market competition. BYD Australia's chief operating officer said the cuts aim to deliver value, not engage in price wars.
Other Chinese brands including Chery and GWM are also cutting prices on SUVs, cars and utes.
