Russian strikes continue as peace talks show limited progress

Russia fired multiple waves of ballistic missiles at Ukraine hours after US envoy Steve Witkoff held talks with President Putin.

Russia pounded Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles overnight, killing at least two people and wounding 34 in Kyiv alone, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The strikes came almost immediately after US envoy Steve Witkoff held hours-long talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg.

Zelenskyy said the timing proved the Kremlin's position on the war had not changed despite negotiations. Residential areas, energy sites, a shopping mall and a monastery had been damaged in Kyiv, where Russia has intensified strikes ahead of winter.

Russia struck a dozen Ukrainian regions overnight in total. The Kremlin had said it was willing to restart trilateral talks with Kyiv and Washington next month but dismissed new ideas from Witkoff as lacking substance.

Meanwhile, Ukraine sent hundreds of drones toward Moscow overnight. Russia claimed to have downed 808 of them.
