Warrnambool man effectively jailed for stabbing four and rape threats

Jeffrey Lucas pleaded guilty to stabbing four people and threatening rape to a nurse during a January attack.

A 55-year-old Warrnambool man has pleaded guilty to stabbing four strangers in a random street attack. On January 26, Jeffrey Lucas armed himself with a metal pole and speargun and attacked people on a footpath in east Warrnambool, shouting at them.

Lucas struck a young man in the face, stabbed another man multiple times in the arm, and stabbed a different man with the speargun. The victims felt terrified by the sudden, unprovoked attack.

Lucas had already spent 255 days in custody before his hearing. He also threatened a 23-year-old nurse in hospital, telling her he would hunt her down and rape her once his shackles were removed.

Lucas will serve a further just two months in prison and will be assessed for a community corrections order to provide help when released.

AustraliaWarrnambool residents affected by this random street violence will see the offender incarcerated and assessed for mental health support on release.
