Military grenade abandoned at Dee Why station

A live military-grade hand grenade was dropped at Dee Why police station's reception desk on Thursday evening.

About 6pm on Thursday, a member of the public walked into the station with a live military-grade hand grenade and left it at reception. Officers immediately evacuated the building and called the bomb disposal unit.

The bomb squad assessed the grenade and declared it safe. Police later learned the grenade had been found during a deceased estate property clean-up.

All officers returned to the station by 7.40pm. The incident is not believed to have been malicious, and investigations are ongoing.
