Man arrested after stolen car hits pedestrian, police vehicle in Sydney

A 36-year-old stole a Mazda sedan and the car struck a pedestrian and marked police vehicle head-on.

A man approached a woman in her 20s near King and Pitt streets in Sydney's CBD about 9pm Thursday and stole her Mazda sedan. The stolen car collided with another vehicle, then struck a stationary police car head-on at George Street and Market Street.

A woman in her 50s on the corner was hit by the car, sustaining a cut to her head. The woman in her 50s was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Officers arrested the 36-year-old at the scene and took him to St Vincent's Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing, where he remains under police guard. The man is expected to be charged.
