Ballarat man with six assault convictions pleads guilty to violent robbery
Dale Buhler, 32, pleaded guilty at the County Court of Victoria to attempted armed robbery and intentionally causing injury in a September 2025 attack in Ballarat.
Buhler attacked a man walking on Yarrowee Street, demanding his glasses from a parked ute. When refused, he got out and punched the victim in the eye, then fetched a hatchet from the vehicle.
Buhler swung the weapon at the victim, who dodged it, then punched him twice more over a backpack before kicking him twice in the head as he fell. The victim was taken to hospital with a fractured eye socket.
Police arrested Buhler hours later. The court heard he was intoxicated on drugs at the time despite a treatment order.
Buhler has spent 376 days in custody. Sentencing has been adjourned.
