Albury councillor argues case to scrap Two Cities One Community deal

Albury councillor Darren Cameron wants to end the Two Cities One Community pact with Wodonga. He cites budget pressures.

Albury councillor Darren Cameron told council the Two Cities One Community partnership with Wodonga has run its course and should end. Cameron argues Albury faces bigger problems.

The council must focus resources on reducing its deficit. Mayor Kylie King agreed the council needs to focus on its finances.

Councillors Geoff Hudson, Jess Kellahan and Stuart Baker defended the partnership. They noted it helped secure an $80 million federal Regional Deal.

This included $10 million for Albury Entertainment Centre and $22 million for Wodonga TAFE. Council endorsed the priorities statement 7-1.

Cameron was the sole objector. Wodonga Council approved it 4-3 last month.

Some doubts were raised there too.
