Salvation Army lodges new aged care plans for Lake Macquarie site
The Salvation Army submitted redesigned plans for a 100-bed aged care home to meet new national design rules.
The facility at Cameron Park will have 40 rooms on the ground floor, 40 on the first floor, and 20 on the lower ground floor. The lower level focuses on dementia care.
About 40 nursing staff will be on duty at any time. The original approval was in 2018.
Construction was delayed first by COVID, then by new national rules for access and dementia care design released in 2024. The redesign includes better sightlines in the kitchen, communal spaces closer to bedrooms, and more privacy in the entrance area.
The site covers 2.7 hectares. It borders a residential estate and Cameron Park Plaza shopping centre.
