Sturt Street bank robber told teller to fill a bag with money
Daniel Pring, 50, attempted to rob a Ballarat Commonwealth Bank with a hammer on December 17, 2025, but the teller refused.
Daniel Wayne Pring, 50, walked into the Commonwealth Bank at the corner of Sturt and Lydiard streets in Ballarat Central with a hammer hidden under his jacket and told the teller to fill a bag with money.
The teller refused and pressed the duress alarm under her desk. The teller retreated to a staff area and told her manager a man was trying to steal money.
Police arrested Pring outside minutes later with the hammer still in his possession. Pring had earlier that day visited a community correction centre and announced his plan to rob a bank, showing staff the hammer.
He told them he would accept jail time so he could get three meals and a bed. Pring has a history of similar crimes, including a seven-year prison sentence in NSW for robbing a pharmacy with a claw hammer.
