Man denied bail on rape charges in Brown Hill
Paul Williams was denied bail due to weapons found at his home posing too great a risk to the community.
Paul Williams, a 49-year-old man, was denied bail after a Ballarat court hearing on October 14. Williams faces charges including rape, making threats to kill, and reckless conduct endangering life.
Police say he assaulted the same woman twice. In January, she was allegedly drugged and raped.
In February, a gun and machete were allegedly present. Detectives who searched his home found three machetes, an imitation firearm, a throwing knife, a Taser, and ammunition.
The defence said there was no toxicology, DNA, or medical evidence. But magistrate Guillaume Bailin said the weapons posed too great a risk to the community to allow bail.
Williams will next appear in court on November 10.
