India beats New Zealand at Eden Park as Kohli scores 74

Kohli scored 74 as India won a rain-affected ODI chase at Eden Park. This came on the eve of his 38th birthday.

Virat Kohli scored 74 off 51 balls. Virat Kohli guided India to a five-wicket win over New Zealand at Auckland's Eden Park on the eve of his 38th birthday.

The match was rain-affected and low-scoring. Kohli was the only batter from either team to pass 40 runs.

Virat Kohli was eventually dismissed by Jacob Duffy, his IPL teammate. But his innings showed confidence against the short ball with pulled shots and hooks.

His performance showed he still has his edge as he nears the end of his international career. India won via DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) calculations, which apply in rain-affected matches.

The victory kicked off a five-match ODI series between the teams. Commentator Ian Smith noted that Kohli was head and shoulders above all other batters on the day.
