Bendigo book fair raises $45,000 to feed 17,000 people weekly
A three-day book fair raised $45,000 for Bendigo Foodshare, which supports over 17,000 people each week.
Bendigo Foodshare's spring book fair raised $45,000 across three days. Between 5,000 and 6,000 people came to buy books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles and vinyl records.
The fair sold 20,000 books, 2,000 DVDs and 1,000 CDs from MacGillivray Hall at Bendigo TAFE. Volunteer coordinator Garth Keech said many visitors came from Melbourne.
Some came for the fair alone, while others attended nearby festivals too. The money goes directly to Bendigo Foodshare.
The group provides food relief to more than 17,000 people across central Victoria each week. Chief executive Michelle Murphy said every dollar helps ensure people have access to healthy food.
The fair stops books from going to landfill while supporting the community.
