Aussie stuntman prepares final act: a 150-metre car jump at 58

Veteran stuntman Chris Mitchell, 58, is preparing to launch a car across 150 metres to break a world record before retiring.

Chris Mitchell has spent three decades taking bone-breaking hits for Hollywood blockbusters, Mission: Impossible II, Star Wars, The Matrix. Now at 58, he's planning his final stunt: a 150-metre ramp-to-ramp car jump to break a world record.

Chris has worked on the plan for two years and needs roughly $300,000 to build the ramps. Before attempting the jump, Chris and his wife prepared their family home to sell, just in case something goes wrong.

He'll be protected by a roll cage and a five-point harness. If the funding comes through, Chris is even planning a second jump blindfolded to raise money for blind and vision-impaired charities.

A filmmaker is documenting his journey in a documentary called The Jump.
