GWM launches cheaper electric hatchback under $30k
GWM's Ora 5 hatchback could start under $30,000 drive-away when it arrives in early 2027.
The Chinese carmaker is expanding its small Ora 5 electric range across three new body styles for Australia. A lower hatchback version could undercut the base SUV's $31,990 price, potentially starting below $30,000 drive-away.
GWM is also preparing a larger Ora 5 Touring and assessing a sedan for Australian launch in the first half of 2027. The hatchback uses the same footprint as the SUV but sits lower.
It's expected to swap the SUV's 58.3kWh battery for a smaller 45.3kWh pack, which would reduce driving range. All Ora 5 models will remain purely electric in Australia, unlike GWM's overseas range which includes hybrid and petrol options.
