NSW Police constable Mia Lay farewelled after fatal car crash
Constable Mia Lay, 20, died in a marked vehicle crash in Redfern on September 25 after serving NSW Police for 16 months.
Constable Mia Lay is being laid to rest at St Andrew's Cathedral in central Sydney on Wednesday. The 20-year-old died when the marked police vehicle she was a passenger in crashed into a tree early on September 25 in Redfern.
Mia Lay had been serving with NSW Police for only 16 months. NSW Premier Chris Minns paid tribute to her as talented, optimistic, calm under pressure, and a stellar athlete.
He noted that police officers begin walking into danger far younger than their schoolmates. Her death was marked on National Police Remembrance Day on September 29.
In 2027, her name will be added to the National Police Memorial in Canberra, where 832 other touchstones represent police lives lost since 1803.
