Tim Read, respected Greens MP, dies aged 64
Victorian Greens MP Tim Read died after battling metastatic cancer. He was well-respected across parliament.
Tim Read, the Greens member for Brunswick, has died aged 64 following a well-known cancer battle. The former general practitioner spent his final year in parliament fighting the Allan government's plan to close VicHealth.
VicHealth is the world's first health promotion foundation. Victorian Greens leader Ellen Sandell said Read was the most liked MP in state parliament.
She said he was respected for his conviction, integrity and humility. Read supported pill testing reforms and tobacco licensing changes.
He helped secure blood donation rights for gay men. He also led work on abolishing public drunkenness laws and banning solitary confinement in prisons.
