Victoria cuts $3400 yearly disability support per school student
Victoria will cut $3400 yearly disability support per student in mainstream schools from term 1 next year.
School leaders got a letter late Tuesday with this news. The letter came just six weeks before the school year ends.
The cut is $850 per term. The cut reflects a 2.5 per cent drop in funding rates.
Eligibility rules are also getting stricter. Costs have gone up 16 per cent each year since 2021.
This pushed the government to make changes. About one in six students getting disability support will be affected.
Teachers, principals and disability advocates say students will lose critical help. This includes help with physical access, focus and learning engagement.
Schools cannot cover this loss without cutting support services.
