AI researchers admit companies concealed risks as safety concerns mount

Jacob Coxon quit Anthropic, saying neither it nor OpenAI acts responsibly. Dario Amodei agreed AI companies lied about risks.

A researcher who worked at both Anthropic and OpenAI has quit. Jacob Coxon said the companies are racing to build powerful systems without proper safeguards.

He warned that neither firm develops AI responsibly, and that they are building systems that could hack anything and gain real power. Dario Amodei, Anthropic's co-founder, essentially agreed.

He released an essay calling for rules to slow AI development. Amodei told media that AI companies had not been honest about the risks their work carries.

The alarm comes as debate grows over whether the industry is moving too fast to keep people safe.
