NSW ambulance station opens in Gateshead to tackle paramedic pressure
Construction begins Friday on a new 14-ambulance station at Gateshead, part of a $615.5 million infrastructure program.
NSW breaks ground on Friday on a new ambulance station at Gateshead, with 14 ambulances. Completion is expected in late 2027.
The station is part of the Minns government's $615.5 million NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program. Paramedics have been calling for more resources as workloads rise and ambulance ramping worsens.
Four other stations are planned for Caves Beach, North Rothbury, East Maitland and Edgeworth. Overtime costs in the Hunter region jumped from about $13.5 million in 2023 to about $17.5 million in 2025, showing the strain on staff.
The government says it is investing in infrastructure to meet growing demand across the region.
