From pocket money to A-League: Beeston's seven-year refereeing journey
Twenty-year-old Elliana Beeston from Launceston made her A-League Women assistant referee debut after seven years starting as a junior soccer official.
Elliana Beeston began refereeing junior soccer matches for some pocket money as a teenager. Seven years later, the 20-year-old made her debut as an assistant referee in an A-League Women's match between Canberra United and Western Sydney.
Elliana Beeston started as many teens do: needing a job and knowing the soccer rules well enough. Success at junior level led to senior games and NPL matches.
Once she saw she could build a career, she committed fully. Beeston spent a year in the UK but returned to pursue her goal of reaching the A-League this season.
She was still surprised when the news came through. Now based in Queensland, she specialises as an assistant ref rather than moving toward centre refereeing.
