Port Kembla horror maze moves indoors for scarier effects

Josh Smith's Halloween Horror Maze relocates to Port Kembla Senior Centre for better control over scares.

For the first time, the Smiths Halloween Horror Maze will run indoors at Port Kembla Senior Centre instead of fighting the suburb's notorious wind and rain. The shift lets operator Josh Smith control lighting and effects that weren't possible outdoors.

Josh Smith now runs daytime sessions from 11am to 3.30pm aimed at families, with lighter scares and more photo opportunities. Evening sessions start at 5.30pm with harder frights and gorier elements for adult visitors.

Staff member Belinda sets expectations as visitors arrive, warning groups when intensity ramps up for the night runs. Smith says the flexibility of an indoor space lets him adjust the maze between sessions and create interactive elements he couldn't risk before.
