Dusty Martin pledges to play for Albury Tigers, but coach doubts he meant it
Martin told Albury's grand final luncheon he'd play for them in 2027, but co-coach Anthony Miles thinks it was a joke.
Dustin Martin announced at Albury Football Club's grand final luncheon on September 18 that he would play for the club in 2027. Co-coach Anthony Miles, his former Richmond teammate, thinks it was tongue-in-cheek.
Miles gave Martin a tour of the Albury Sportsground before the event, and Martin was pleasantly surprised by the ground and surface. Miles doesn't think the pledge is serious, saying he doesn't 'think there is a whole lot to it at this early stage.'
Martin retired at the end of 2024 after 302 AFL games, three premierships and a Brownlow Medal. Whether his latest comments lead to another appearance in country football remains unclear.
