Ex-Navy member sentenced over assault called 'gratuitously violent'

Former Navy member Tyrell Jordan Williams was sentenced to six months suspended jail for a violent Woolworths assault.

A former Navy member was sentenced in the Supreme Court in Launceston on November 5 for a violent attack outside Deloraine Woolworths. Justice Robert Pearce said the attack was gratuitously violent.

On October 25, 2025, Tyrell Jordan Williams and his brother met a man in the carpark. Williams' brother had a complaint with the man over a motorcycle sale from five years earlier.

After the victim drove away and came back to call police, Williams grabbed him from behind. He threw him hard onto the footpath and kicked him in the head.

The victim suffered serious shoulder injuries. Williams got six months in jail suspended for 18 months.

His brother got 35 hours of community service.
