Cobden sports hub set for major upgrade after 60 years
A more-than-60-year-old recreation reserve used by nearly 2,000 people weekly will undergo a major upgrade.
Cobden Recreation Reserve has been serving football, cricket, netball and tennis clubs for more than six decades, but it is falling apart. The facility is past its use-by date.
Cracked walls, poor ventilation and outdated change rooms cannot fit all the players. The redevelopment will build a fully enclosed all-weather facility.
An expanded pavilion will seat 280 people. Gender-inclusive change rooms will be built.
Upgraded umpire spaces and improved medical and training areas are included. Solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems will be added.
Ramps, lifts and updated bathrooms will improve access. Stage one is hoped to start in one to three years.
The committee needs funding from government, sponsors and sporting organisations.
