Heathcote Road closure lifted after bushfire extinguished
A lost trailer wheel sparked a bushfire on Heathcote Road that grew to 40 metres by 10 metres.
A bushfire erupted on Heathcote Road near Lucas Heights when a motorist towing a trailer lost a wheel on Tuesday. The wheel bearing dragged on the road and sparked the blaze around midday on September 15.
The fire grew to 40 metres by 10 metres before NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers contained it. Northbound lanes were closed and a watch and act alert issued.
No properties were threatened. Heathcote Road reopened to traffic about 1:15pm.
The incident comes as NSW prepares for the bushfire danger period, which starts October 1. Hazard reduction burns are underway in nearby Heathcote National Park this week.
