Sydney man sentenced for threats against high office holder
A 56-year-old Sydney man received an 11-month Intensive Correction Order. He had threatened to kill an Australian high office holder by phone.
NSW Local Court sentenced the man on September 30. The man pleaded guilty to threatening to kill someone by phone and weapons offences.
Federal police started investigating in February 2026 after getting reports of threatening calls to a high office holder. Police searched his Macquarie Fields home and found three gel blasters, metal handcuffs and electronic devices.
The man also received a two-year Community Correction Order. He must complete 75 hours of community service for the weapons charges.
The AFP created National Security Investigation teams last year to target people harming Australia's social unity, including those threatening elected officials.
