A man was jailed for five years for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in 2019. She became unwell after smoking marijuana at his home and was frozen in body and mind when he raped her.
She told him to stop. Chief Justice Lucy McCallum said his conduct was opportunistic and predatory, showing disregard for the harm he caused.
She became pregnant. In court, she said she took back control of her body and remained proud of her daughter.
The man will be eligible for parole in July 2029. The judge could not say exactly when the teenager fell pregnant but was satisfied it resulted from his ongoing assault.
