Historic 1926 Shell station to become restaurant
A 1926 Shell service station in Speers Point, empty for decades, will be restored and converted into a 260-square-metre restaurant and café.
A heritage-listed Shell service station built in 1926 on Speers Point's main road is being revived as a restaurant. The derelict building operated for close to 70 years before sitting vacant.
The building was sold at auction for $368,000. Developers plan to restore the distinctive curved facade and original timber features.
A food and drink venue would be open from 6am to 10pm. The design will keep the arched front and concrete-block piers.
Original trusses would stay exposed in the dining room. An early fuel pump and interpretive displays would be shown in a rear lobby.
The conservation plan calls for period details to be restored.
