Ex-service veterans' suicide rate stays far above average
New data shows ex-service female suicide rates fell from 23.4 to 8.3 per 100,000 yearly, yet remain far above the national average.
An Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report found suicide rates among ex-serving veterans have declined over the past decade. Among ex-service women, the rate dropped from 23.4 deaths per 100,000 population per year in 2015-2017 to 8.3.
Despite the improvement, veterans remain at far greater risk than the general population. Veterans face higher suicide rates than serving personnel.
