Billy Evans becomes Eaglehawk co-coach after captaining premiership side
Star midfielder Billy Evans is promoted to co-coach of Bendigo league club Eaglehawk alongside Travis Matheson.
Billy Evans, the 29-year-old midfielder who captained Eaglehawk to a premiership in 2025, has been named co-coach for next season. Travis Matheson will work alongside Evans; he has co-coached the Hawks for two years.
Clayton Holmes is stepping down to focus on his own business. Evans has spent six seasons at Eaglehawk and also served as an assistant coach.
He won the club's best and fairest twice and the Michelsen Medal in 2025. His appointment is natural: the playing group already trusts him.
Evans also played seven AFL games for Brisbane Lions in 2015 and 2016, giving him experience of top-level football culture.
