Bendigo's $1 million Garden Gully playspace breaks ground
Construction has started on a $1 million playspace at Garden Gully with pole vault towers, splash pad, and all-abilities facilities.
The City of Greater Bendigo is building a new playspace with pole vault towers between climbing structures, a water splash park, barbecue areas and all-abilities toilets. The federal government has contributed more than $100,000 to the $1 million project.
Construction began in recent months after two years passed between community consultation and breaking ground. Mayor Thomas Prince said the delay was typical for council projects.
The extensive community input made sure the final design matched what locals wanted. The playspace will sit west of the existing hockey ground.
It will link to the future Ironbark Gully Trail. The existing playground will stay open during construction.
It will be removed once the new one is finished. Works are expected to wrap up in the first half of 2027.
