Retro masterpiece Belairberry, built by Ukrainian vet, listed in Berry NSW
Belairberry, a 1950s Berry mansion known as the Thunderbirds House, is now for sale after David Farthing restored it.
In 1954, George Boris, a Ukrainian migrant and Berry's first veterinarian, built a distinctive home. Locals began calling it the Thunderbirds House.
Belairberry has a P&O-influenced nautical-deco design. It turned heads then and still does now.
Boris brought in European materials not available in Australia at the time. These included original bathroom tiling and free-form paving.
The home has seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. It sits on 1727 square metres.
Owner David Farthing has carefully maintained it since 2013. Farthing spent two years restoring the property.
He replaced overgrown gardens with landscaped grounds. He also added an 11-metre lap pool.
Today it works as a holiday rental. It makes about $150,000 a year.
Guest suites are in the original veterinary rooms. The main residence and four private guest suites can hold up to 17 people.
