Jordan Dawson returns to AFL after brother's death with family and community
Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson returned to playing days after his brother's death, supported by his wife and teammates.
Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson has spoken about returning to the field after his brother Jaryd's death in April in the coastal town of Robe in South Australia's south east. Dawson said his wife Milly and her family were crucial to his ability to play again.
Coach Matthew Nicks was with him the night he learned of his brother's death. Teammates drove almost four hours from their St Kilda game and came to Robe on the Sunday and Monday morning to support him.
Commentator Hamish McLachlan sent a handwritten letter delivered to club staff when Dawson returned to play against Brisbane. Reading it at home moved Dawson to tears, and the pair now text regularly.
Dawson also drew strength from conversations with former Geelong captain Joel Selwood, who has lost two brothers.
