Wollongong council seeks buyers for CBD car park
Council calls for proposals to redevelop its 195-space Rawson Street car park near the train station.
Wollongong council has announced plans to seek expressions of interest in the Rawson Street car park it has owned since 2008. The site holds 195 spaces in metered and leased spots, one block from Wollongong station and near the health precinct.
Council wants proposals that keep some public parking but also add "community-focused and commercially sustainable uses." Lord Mayor Tania Brown said the council hopes for outcomes like aged care, affordable housing, or key worker housing.
There will be no immediate changes to access, though the process will take time. The council general manager said the site's size and location make it a crucial opportunity for the city centre's growth.
