Pony Up opens in Civic, bridging early dining and late-night bars
Rabble Group's Pony Up opened in Civic as a grunge-themed bar-restaurant, filling the space left by Italian restaurant Bada Bing.
Pony Up opened at 122 Alinga Street in Civic, in the Sydney Building where Bada Bing closed in 2025. The venue serves food from 4pm, then becomes a nightlife hub later.
It's the big sister to Fun Time Pony, an underground bar in the same group. You can eat upstairs and then go downstairs to party.
The grunge aesthetic is new: graffiti covers the walls, high-top tables replaced restaurant seating, and the bar glows red. The menu features smashed burgers and a house lager called Pony Piss, with schooners at $5.
Rabble Group co-owner Wes Heincke said the space suits their style better than a restaurant. He said the city's recovery from light rail construction is underway and Pony Up signals an upturn for Civic's nightlife.
