Canberra's first Chinese BBQ buffet opens in Belconnen with charcoal cooking
Meat House, Canberra's first Chinese BBQ buffet, opened at Capital Food Markets in Belconnen. It offers charcoal table-cooking and a beef-heavy menu.
Meat House has taken over the space where Korean restaurant Hanok once stood at Capital Food Markets in Belconnen. Unlike Korean BBQ, which Canberra residents know well, this Chinese BBQ focuses heavily on beef.
You can get brisket, beef belly, chuck roll, oyster blade, and king prawns. All are cooked tableside over charcoal rather than gas.
This gives a smoky flavour. Mid-week all-you-can-eat costs $54.90 per person with an hour-and-a-half time limit.
The menu leans toward northern Chinese flavours with cumin-heavy marinades. Ready-made buffet dishes include salt-and-pepper chicken cartilage, tomato beef brisket stew, and crispy pork.
King oyster mushrooms stand out. They absorb the charcoal smoke and become delicious.
Drinks are ordered by QR code. Beer, soju, Japanese whisky and wine are available.
