Floriade draws record 519,000 visitors, 44% from outside ACT
Last year Floriade attracted its highest ever attendance. Nearly half the visitors came from other states.
Floriade started in 1988 as a one-off celebration of Canberra's 75th anniversary. Floriade proved so popular it became an annual event.
In 2025, it drew 519,413 visitors, with 44 per cent from other states. The 2024 event attracted more than 470,000 visitors and generated $62.4 million for the ACT economy.
Local hotels, restaurants, shops and transport operators all benefit from the surge in visitors. For small businesses, market stalls and performers, Floriade provides a rare chance to reach thousands of people.
The festival brings together people from different generations, cultures and parts of Canberra. For older people, new residents and families, it offers an affordable way to feel part of the community.
In 2024, 300,000 bulbs and annuals were given to 102 community groups across Canberra. This spread the festival beyond the city centre.
