Canberra driver banned after caught speeding, drugged, in unsafe car
A 25-year-old Calwell woman was caught speeding. She was driving 118kmh in a 60kmh zone. She was also under the influence. Her licence was suspended for 90 days.
A Calwell woman was caught driving 118kmh in a 60kmh roadworks zone on William Hovell Drive in Whitlam. ACT Road Police stopped her white Mazda sedan late Wednesday.
She had overtaken another vehicle across double lines. A roadside drug test came back positive for a prescribed drug.
The vehicle also had major safety defects. The woman was issued an immediate 90-day driving suspension.
Her car was seized. She will face the ACT Magistrates Court on charges of dangerous driving while under the influence, drug driving and driving an unsafe vehicle.
ACT Police reminded road users that excessive speed and impaired driving put all road users at serious risk. Poorly maintained vehicles also create this risk.
