Woman who filmed herself setting fire to home avoids jail sentence

Jessy Taylor, 33, filmed herself setting fire inside her Mirrabooka home on August 17 last year. She refused to leave as flames spread.
Fire services across Lake Macquarie responded to stop the blaze reaching neighbouring properties. The house, valued at about $700,000, was destroyed inside.
The second storey and internal staircase were gutted. Taylor appeared intoxicated when police arrived.
She was repeatedly asked to evacuate but ignored those requests. A witness considered entering the burning house to rescue her before being advised against it.
Taylor pleaded guilty to damaging property by fire, saying she intended to light it but not burn the whole house down. Newcastle District Court sentenced her to a 22-month intensive correction order.
