Australians told not to go to Riyadh airport after missile attacks

Three missile attacks on the Riyadh airport killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300.

Smartraveller now tells Australians not to travel to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The advice for Saudi Arabia overall is still to reconsider travel.

Three missile attacks hit the airport on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, killing at least 12 people. More than 300 people were injured, and hundreds of flights have been cancelled.

An order for people in Saudi Arabia to stay indoors has since been lifted. The attacks were launched in an offensive against Houthi rebels in nearby Yemen.

Ambassador Miles Armitage called the attacks a significant escalation and urged Australians to stay alert. If you need to travel through another airport, check your flight status directly with your airline or travel provider.
