Two men charged after armed robbery and 40-minute police chase in Canberra
Two men were charged after an armed robbery in Hughes and a chaotic 40-minute pursuit that damaged two police vehicles.
A man entered a store in Hughes on Monday evening, showed staff a black firearm, and took cash from the till before fleeing with another man in a Subaru station wagon. Police spotted the vehicle three days later in Turner and attempted to intercept it.
The Subaru fled at high speed through the Belconnen and Gungahlin suburbs for 40 minutes, driving dangerously. The driver reversed into a marked police car on Gungahlin Drive, causing major damage to both vehicles.
The pursuit ended when the Subaru collided with an unmarked police car in Lyneham and came to a stop. Police found a black illegal firearm on the ground beside the driver.
A 37-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were both charged with aggravated robbery and other offences.
