Alex de Minaur fought back from a set down and then from match point to defeat French qualifier Quentin Halys at the China Open in Beijing. Halys served for the match at 5-3 in the second set before de Minaur broke back and clinched a neck-and-neck tie-break 7-5.
The deciding set was equally close, with de Minaur breaking at 5-5 to secure a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory in two hours 47 minutes. The win evened their head-to-head record at 2-2 and sends the Australian into the quarterfinals, where he faces Andrey Rublev, currently ranked number 20 in the world.
