Greater Sydney placed under extreme fire danger warning for Monday
Western Sydney suburbs could reach up to 37C, with a total fire ban across Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter.
The Bureau of Meteorology says extreme fire danger is forecast across all of metropolitan Sydney. Fresh north-westerly winds and hot, dry conditions are expected to lift fire danger on Monday.
Western suburbs could reach up to 37C, while Campbelltown and Penrith are forecast to hit 36C. The NSW Rural Fire Service issued a total fire ban on Monday morning for Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter.
Rural Fire Service spokesman Greg Allan told people not to use solid fuel, such as wood or charcoal for barbecues. Firefighters were expecting high temperatures, strong winds and low humidity.
Greg Allan said he does not want any new fires started in the open. Allan urged people to stay cool, stay hydrated and talk through their bushfire survival plan.
