Bendigo foundry closes as parent company collapses, 70 jobs lost
Keech Castings foundry in Bendigo is closing immediately. It affects up to 70 workers. This happened after parent company Derwent Industries failed.
Workers at Keech Castings learned Friday the foundry is closing immediately. The facility opened in 1934 and employed about 60 to 70 workers who made steel castings for mining and other industries.
Parent company Derwent Industries went into administration in September. Receivers decided the Bendigo and Hobart foundries cannot be sold.
Layoffs are expected after staff talks. The company was put in the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame in 2015.
