Women cricketers urge Cricket Australia to fix school-night T20s
Australia's women cricketers are demanding better scheduling: no T20s on school nights and home matches in school holidays.
Australia's senior women cricketers have called for better scheduling after three consecutive T20s against New Zealand were set for school nights in Sydney. Broader concern: no international women's cricket at home during Australia's school holidays for at least three years under the current ICC schedule.
All matches fall in shoulder seasons instead. Senior players like Beth Mooney worry this timing hurts the sport's growth among girls.
"Parents won't bring kids to a 7pm T20 on a school night," Mooney said. Poor timing makes it harder to build momentum after their recent T20 World Cup win.
The team lacks visibility when they're not front and centre of summer, she added. Coach Shelley Nitschke agreed, saying it was disappointing not to play home games in December or January.
Captain Sophie Molineux said summer matches would help fans come through.

Why it mattersWhen women's cricket is invisible during peak summer months, young girls are less likely to take up the sport, slowing its growth.
AustraliaAustralian women's cricket participation and viewership will suffer if matches stay scheduled on school nights and outside school holidays when families can watch together.
